Mayo Lake Nature Preserve
Mayo Lake Nature Preserve consists of 67 acres of land located in Crow Wing and Cass Counties. This park is located off of Hurtig Rd and 69th St SW. There is a perpetual conservation easement on this property. The property consists of many different vegetative cover types including upland forests, and lowland shrub swamps. These lands surround the southern portion of Mayo Lake. The topography is mostly gently rolling with some steep slopes along the lake. There are trails on the property that are used for recreational activities and management access.
A Forest Management Plan has been prepared which was a condition of the conservation easement. (Click on the link below to see the plan).
The City's goals for this property are:
1. To use these lands for non-motorized recreational activities
2. To develop recreational trails for hiking, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing; erect picnic tables and benches; and construct a small parking area for vehicles.
3. To keep the lands rustic (no development of structural facilities).
4. To maintain the environmental integrity of the Mayo Lake shoreline including no development.
5. To maintain big, colorful trees in a park-like setting over a long period of time.
