BEWARE OF PHONE & INTERNET SCAMS!!!

Unfortunately, several residents of Pequot Lakes have been victims of phone scams and fraud lately. Here are the common scams happening in the area:

* Phone calls or mail claiming that you have won cash and/or prizes

* Phone calls from someone claiming to be from the U.S. Government (IRS, FBI) saying that you owe money

* Online dating scams - these scammers target men and women looking for love online (dating websites and chat rooms), then ask for money and/or gifts

If you believe you are the victim of a scam, DO NOT, under any circumstances, give personal information or money to someone that you do not know. If you have already done so, please contact the police department.

If you have not given out personal information or sent money, you may report the scam to the Attorney General's Office at 1-800-657-3787.
